Anything!! (within reason). Examples include: Fiction, infodumps, media reviews and recommendations, comics, poetry, illustrations, photography, recipes, how-to's, photos of projects such as sculpture, cooking, sewing, makeup, mending, ceramics - just NO AI! NSFW welcome with content warnings.
Yes! As our publication grows, you may be at higher risk for works being cut with multiple submissions, but we still welcome up to 3 submissions per person, with any work not taken on board for the current volume being kept in mind for future volumes - we always try to publish as much work as we can!
All printed information about your work, including your name, is optional.
On our submission Google Form we ask for the following.
Email (this is the only required one, we have to contact you!)
Artist bio and social media handle
Pen name (Anonymous submission welcome)
Any additional context or information about your piece
Where you're based
We ask for general location so we can get a better grasp on where in Scotland we are receiving work from! Dundee artists are more likely to be published if we have a particularly busy volume, but we aim to include all!
Well, of course! Slugfest is open to all and we believe community transcends exclusionary labels. Everyone is welcome to submit if you agree with our core values and want to be a part of our wonderful wee project! Queer is political, so long as you're strange enough you're welcome!
It is always our goal to publish every submission, but occasionally this isn't achievable due to the volume of wonderful works. Our themes are just a jumping-off point, so when it comes to cutting submissions down it is less to do with how well they fit the theme and more to do with how we feel they work alongside the rest of the works in the volume! If we feel your work has a unique view on the theme, or it works well with someone else's work, we are more likely to keep that in.
We do not curate on subjectivequality. Your art doesn't need to be "good" to be created and sent to us, it only needs to be yours.
We also keep a backlog of any unpublished submissions and will keep them in mind to be featured in future volumes.
