Our Sluggy History
Our Sluggy History
Slugfest was birthed in Dundee in October 2025, when our founder Malcolm was lying asleep in their bed. An angel dressed as a Victorian headmistress visited them in the dream realm and slapped them across the face, saying, if it takes starting a zine to get you to write, then do that!
When they woke, they were covered in slugs. It wasn't an infestation, it was inspiration! How many other people weren't creating because they didn't have a community to create with or for? Three months later in December the first volume of Slugfest came into print and we've been running since!
Illustrator Finn and latex designer Rhys were soon seized by the slugs. Finn has designed the poster for every one of our volumes and illustrated graphics throughout our zines. Rhys does graphic design and conducts fantastic interviews with Scottish musicians. Rio is our treasurer, Anemona our proofreader and interviewer, and Olive our fundraising and events manager. A 'Team' tab will be available soon on this site where you can meet us!
Volume 5 marks our 1 year anniversary!
If you've supported us in any way thus far, we have you to thank!! Our zine isn't possible without community support and we're so grateful to have received so much.

Each volume centres around a different theme, but we take work that is unrelated or as loosely related to the theme as suits you. Whatever gets you to create!
We aim to be as low a barrier to submission and publication as possible, while still being something you can be proud of and take home with you to cherish and propel you onward creatively.
After each issue is printed, we host slugparties where volumes of the zine are available for free pick up from a local Dundee pub. There you can meet other artists like yourself! We're a friendly bunch.
